Mohs Micrographic Surgery, the gold standard for skin cancer removal, is an advanced surgical technique designed for the removal of all possible cancer cells, not only those visible on the surface. Using this method, after the visible cancer has been removed, the tissue is microscopically evaluated immediately and on-site for residual tumor. This process is repeated until no more cancer is found. Once this is accomplished a cosmetic repair is selected to best close the defect. This process allows for the smallest amount of tissue to be removed while it maxamized the tumor removal. Fewer than 2% of cancers will recur when treated with this technique.
